O.K., folks. I'm a believer in synthetics, for sure... I've had Mobil 1 in
my TR6 since its rebuild in 1988/89, and Amsoil synthetic gear oil in the
gearbox since then, also. (Not in the diff, though... it has yet to be
rebuilt and leaks as though it was made in Britain... oh wait... IT WAS!)
Anyway, you guys have been talking around one issue that I'm curious
about... Conventional motor oil goes bad just sitting there. It oxidizes
and breaks down just sitting there in the sump. So, even if you have only
driven 10 miles since then last oil change, if it was 6 months ago, you
definitely need a change of oil. Right? Right. So, how does synthetic
compare to conventional oil in this regard? Anyone have any hard numbers
of some sort?

Thanks in advance for the replies!!
