     Over the years I've been using a product called "Mulco", which is like 
     a roofing cement, but is specifically for sealing around chimney 
     flashing. It's really waterproof - it can even be applied in the rain 
     if necessary. You can get it at your local hardware store. 
     The nice thing about it is that what's left over in the can doesn't 
     seem to dry out with time - I've had the same can on the go for about 
     ten years. It might not totally harden on the car either though, so 
     I'm not sure how well it would take paint. 
     It's not official, and it doesn't have British Heritage, but it gets a 
     car through a safety check!
