Just returned from a day at the Lime Rock Vintage Festival feeling both
overwhelmed by the unbelievable cars there and somewhat let down. I'm
guessing that because this is a "Concours event utilizing the French judging
format". a LOT of "daily driver/work in progress" car owners don't register.
That and probably the $10 per person park entrance fee plus an additional
$25 for the event! The majority of the cars in the event are absolutely
beautiful, with marquee variety unseen anywhere else around here. I coughed
up the $25 (and my courage) and parked the 6 on the track with 3 only other
TR6's...... LBC's weren't that well represented: no TR4's or 250's, 1 (?)
TR3, 1 Spit, a few AH3000's (including Donald Healey's personal Aluminum
bodied 3000 - it's for sale if you have about $125K!), 1 MGB, a couple of
MGA's. The disappointment lies in the other 50 -75 (or more) cars in the
parking lot that spectators would love to see. It's a shame they don't have
a non judged section where people can park so spectators can enjoy our cars.
Maybe even a big car corral to separate the sports cars from the mini vans
and SUVs. But where else can you see 45 Dodge Vipers, about 15 AC Cobras and
untold numbers of Mustang GT350 and GT500s all in one place? There was even
a Z28 with every single piece under the hood either chromed plated or gold
plated - a bit gaudy for me but a real attention getter. It's the only show
I've ever attended that takes 4 - 6 hours to see everything.
