I just received a new Smiths ammeter, downward pointing style, of which I
will be converting to an upward pointing variety, but that's another story.
Anyway, I believe someone was inquiring about the green lamp covers, or
where they could find them. I noticed when I was disassembling this gauge,
which by the way is entirely plastic including the studs and the nuts to
hold in on with, that the lamp had a little green rubber "hat" which fit
right onto the bulb. This might be just trick- Seemed kind of odd in that
I would think the heat of the bulb would damage it, but . . .I purchased
this gauge through XKs Unlimited in San Luis Obispo (800)444-5247. They
may be able to get these little helmets that one could retrofit to ones
gauges. The original gauges had a green plastic cover fitted to the lamp
area to get the effect.
