I'm rebuilding the rear suspension on my ongoing restoration project ('64
Sports 6). The parts are all identicle to my Mk I Spit. How much play is
allowable in the rear hub bearings? I have the axle assemblies off the car
and stripped down to the axle/carrier assembly. When the carriers are held
in a vice and I grab the hub I cannot feel any detectable play. But when I
grab the u-joint end of the axle I can feel a slight but noticable movement.
Is there any way to assess this short of removing the hub and bearings?
I've been thru that with my Spit and would like to avoid it if I had
confidence that the bearings I have are O.K. Thanks in advance for any help
or advice.
