Greetings George,

Long time no see!

I'm cc'ing the list in case any folks coming to Portland this July 28
through August 1 have a chance to see this info.

In short, you can contact the various ferry companies for more info, but
instead of taking a bus tour, you drive. Ferries leave from Portland, ME to
Yarmouth, NS and there's a couple of ferries out of Bar Harbor (or Bah
Habah as we New Englanders call it) to either Yarmouth, NS or Digby, NS.
Any of the ferries save a lot of driving - for example, it's over 500 miles
by road from Portland to Yarmouth - I forget the exact distances. I also
know by experience that it's a good long day's drive from St. Stephen and
the New Brunswick/ Maine border crossing to the ferry (now bridge) to
Prince Edward Island. I just checked that one - something like 180 miles,
but it takes all day. You would, of course try to take in the sights along
the way, like the reversing falls in St. John or The Rocks and Fundy Nat'l
Park... all very scenic.

The Portland to Yarmouth crossing has some appeal because the ferry leaves
in the evening and you're in Nova Scotia first thing the next morning. I
don't know the schudules for the ferries from Bar Harbor, but they're
probably similar. BTW, Bar Harbor is very nice too, but you need to spend a
day or teo there.

If you need more info, let me know. FWIW, we drove Boston to Portland,
ferried to Yarmouth, stopped in Halifax then motored over to Baddeck,
motored around Cape Bretton, stayed at Antigonish then over to Wolfville
and finally back to Yarmouth - took about a week alltogether - lots of
driving, probably 1300 miles or so, maybe a bit more.

It was awesome.

Later,
rml
