Yes, there's been a bunch of posts on the subject of frame color recently.  

While leafing through Graham Robson's "The Triumph TRs - A Collector Guide" 
the other evening I came across a statement that said something like: "the 
factory often painted frames in whatever color was handy (probably whatever 
the current body color was)".  If you'd like the page number and exact quote, 
let me know - I'll look it up for you.
