one little difference, UJ's seem to be stronger by inherent design than cv's. 
An example are cv's and uj's for the same application in the Mini. The 
cooper's' shaft used to have uj's whereas the std mini (and the later 's') had 
cv's. This eliminated problems with cv's breaking during race or rallye 
application. Plus in this special application its much easier to change a 
driveshaft with uj's than with cv's.
