On a TR3 an alternative to jacking up the motor is to turn the steering wheel
(either way) to full lock. This raises the engine just a bit (relative to the
steering linkage) and often provides the needed clearance... don't know if this
will buy you any room on a 6 as I'm not sure where your interference is.
