JPEG.
BMP has too many limitations, the main one being the usage of 256 colours
only. Secondly, the size of a BMP file is much larger. Not standardly used
on the web.
JPEG allows for extreme compression of the colours, and you have a limit of
16 million (more than sufficient for photographs). Always save any size
photos in JPEG, and you may even find some other images of yours will look
just as good and be smaller in file size using the JPEG format. Along with
the GIF format, these two are used on the majority of images on the
internet.
Photoshop and Paintshop Pro both have quality scales for the JPEG format, so
you can scale the file size down more if needed.
