I guess its time to announce the latest addition to my small stable of
Triumphs.....and that would be one 1953 Triumph Mayflower....
This particular car is about 98% complete and for the most part original.
The knobs were replaced with custom made brass ones because the heat
inside car melted the plastic ones! Also it now sports an electric fuel
pump
rather than the mechanical unit. Oh yea, one other item, PO added a rear
window stop lamp due to the small size of the original brake lamps.
The car hasn't run for about 4 years or so but was running when parked
and is black with red interior.
There is some rust on the car, nothing that can't be fixed however with a
little effort and time. There is a modest amount of sheet metal being
reproduced for these cars. Just enough to get me by it would appear.
It shares many parts with the TR2s and TR3s such as the steering wheel
and trafficator, front suspension components, horns and some of the
lamps. According to Andy Mace a lot of the brake components are the
same as used in other models of Triumphs, MG's and Volvo's.
It has a whopping 38 hp developed by its flathead 1200cc engine. With 3
speeds on the column it can do a whopping 0-60 in 42.6 seconds! Needless
to say I doubt that I'll be driving it to any of the conventions unless they
are held within a state or two of me!!

I would venture to say that all of you can rest easy now, it would appear
that my Triumph buying days are over for quite some time to come.....that is
unless that TR2 long door thats come to attention actually becomes
available!
