As per problem one, do you mean the engine will only turn over once or twice,
and then there's no further movement?  If this is so, and your starter and
battery are OK, think about your solenoid if it's old.  My GT6 has this problem,
and replacing the original solenoid brought the cranking revs back to normal.
But it also sounds like you trashed your coil.  Replace it -- they're cheap.

Problem #2  sounds carb related.  Have you done the usual mixture and air flow
checks?  Check the throttle shafts for wear (wiggle them and/or spray carb
cleaner on them while the engine is running -- should be no change in idle).
Less likely is a temperature compensator problem.
