a parts car?
Almost 26 years to the month after being assembled, the fate of
CF28217UO is now in question. An unlucky encounter with a tree, in
which the tree won, has resulted in a fair bit of front end damage.
Bonnet crumpled, grill/fascia/fender mangled. I've got one fender off
and it may be salvageable, the other will be off tonight so I can get
the bonnet off to really see what I've done. The radiator is pushed
back until it is just touching the fan blades so I don't think the crank
shaft has been impacted. We were going relatively slow (approx 30 km/h
when the tree jumped jumped out in front of us)
Can anyone out there give me some clues to look for in assessing the
damage after I get the bonnet off? The frame doesn't look bent although
the extensions the bumper attaches to are beyond repair. I also have
noted that the inner fenders and wheel wells look to have shifted back a
bit as they are now touching the rubber boots on the steering rack. I
assume this is a really bad sign.
One word of warning for all, lap belts are not a good idea. The driver
side of my car has a shoulder belt but the PO had replaced the passenger
side with just a lap belt. I walked away without a scratch, my
passenger broke her nose on the dash. Don't procrastinate like I did,
replace those lap belts with shoulder belts in NOW!
