When I did my 6, it basically has the same instructions. What I did
was probably wrong, but it has been fine for three years now. When
your talking 40 ft-lbs, we're talking about tightening that sucker
down pretty much. So I used the standard wrench and just tightened
it down 'til I couldn't move it any more. I am sure I am in the 
range and I am sure I didn't over torque it since I have a pretty 
good sense of what 40lbs torque feels like. This way you don't have
to worry about getting the torque wrench into a spot that is all
but impossible.
