Don't know about removing or leaving it in (I leave mine in, but I am 
in California). However...I highly recommend a "Smart" trickle 
charger, they determine if the battery needs a charge and just give 
it what it needs when it is needed.  Got mine at NAPA and it works 
great.  Of course Casper is never in for the whole winter <G>
