I just bought another interesting toy that might be a curious solution.
I paid $30 Canadian for a solar battery saver that sits on your dash and
plugs into your lighter socket. I figured it wasn't to much to spend on
something silly that may or may not work, but it seems to make a difference
in my Quattro that has a digital volt meter in the dash. I guess you need
to have a car outside and uncovered though. Might not be the thing for you.

Bob,
One of the cleverest plans I've heard (from someone on this list I think)
is to leave a charger connected to the battery, and plug it in to the light
on the garage door opener. Then each time you open the door the battery
will be charged for 3 minutes or whatever time the light stays on. This
assumes you have a garage of course, not to mention an automatic opener. In
mine at least there are two light bulbs so one can be removed and an outlet
screwed in to its spot.

I want to put my TR3 battery on a "trickle" charger for the winter.
Is it best to leave the battery charging in the car (in an unheated
garage, in Wisconsin) or put it in the basement (also connected to
the charger) until spring?
Bob
