Interesting problem with the Spitfire, though probably not all that 
interesting to the person trying to fix it!

Given that other electrical things can be ruled out from the work already 
done, here are some possibilities.  The problem may not be heat-related, but 
rather, running-time related.  For examples:  Blocked fuel filter.  Block 
air source into the fuel tank (a line from the charcoal canisters up 
front?).  See if opening the gas filler cap helps.  Check also (but 
seemingly not so likely):  Leaking vacuum lines and diaphrams (retard only, 
I suspect).

The EGR valve might be a problem but really isn't necessary.  If your air 
pump is seized or otherwise nonfunctional and therefore removed, it isn't 
doing much for emissions anyway.  You can pull off the small vacuum line 
that actuates it (and plug the end going to the carb).

Someone on the TR list once described a scenario where the valves were so 
tight that it ran poorly once warm.  However I suspect you've check them.
