Mark B. would know better, but it's possible that your browser is set to
something other than "use login name for anonymous FTP."
Most FTP sites, including the catalog site, allow an anonymous FTP,
meaning one doesn't have to be a member of that FTP's domain, but still
require some kind of login. Your browser has to be set to automatically
offer your login name for anonymous FTP. In Netscape, for example, this
is set under "Preferences -> Advanced."
