I should add... using an electric fan does not preclude use of the hand crank.
By removing the bottom-most rib on the fan guard and lining that opening up with
the crank hole I can still hand crank the engine. By inserting the crank slowly
(which is a must anyway) you push any fan blade out of the way as the crank goes
through.
