Hi all,

I have a question about replacing the voltage regulator for the Lucas
18ACR (or possibly 16ACR).

The regulator in my car ('74 TR6/'75 engine) has no name plate. I assume
it was probably a rebuilt model. But it looks like the same as a 16ACR or 18ACR
alternator as shown in the TRF volume 2 catalog.

I ordered the regulator for the 18ACR, thinking it was the most likely one
installed. When I got the regulator though, there was a slight difference
from the one on the alternator. They both have 4 wires of the same colors,
but the one on the alternator has a eyelet on the white lead, while the one
I bought has a Lucar connector.

I assumed I bought the wrong one, but after checking the TRF price list
I see that the regulators for both the 18 and 16ACR have been superseded
with the same part (LUUCB104).

So, the real question is, the picture that came with the instructions for the
new regulator showing where to connect the white wire is a bit confusing 
because it isn't exactly like my alternator. The diagram shows a connection
point just behind the red wire on the right hand side, but on my alternator
there isn't another connection there, although there are connections on the
left hand side. I think it could be hooked up on the left side of the plate
behind the red wire connection. (Those are connections on the diodes, right?
Is the order of diodes always the same? (e.g. it would always be safe to
connect on the diode just behind the red connection.)) The Haynes manual
shows this as a positive connection (live side output diodes).

Has anyone hooked up this regulator in place of an older regulator that
had the eyelet instead of the lucar connector on the white lead?

Would anyone happend to have clear photos of where it should be connected?
What's the worst that could happen if I misconnect it?

(BTW, I know, I need to order Dan Master's book. I'll have to get around
to doing it soon.)
