All of that stuff can only be transmitted in HTML (or RTF).  The list server
forbids HTML and RTF, translates everything to plain text.  So, what people
see on their screens, depends on what font, size, etc. they have selected
locally.

It used to be that the list server would reject HTML out of hand, but our
fearless leader installed a translation module some time ago.
