TRF has a tech article on how to do the TR3A conversion to a TR4 rack
and pinion. Be advised that it is at best incomplete. The issue that
is a problem is setting the bump steer. The TR4 rack is too wide for
the TR3A. You cannot compensate for this by cutting down either the tie
rods or the TR4 rack.
There are conversions from England that are good. Look for one of
those. It will require converting to the TR4 steering shaft.
I personally converted to a 1972 Pinto rack and pinion with TR4 steering
shaft. This required setting the bump steer by heating and beding the
steering levers at the spindles. This is a procedure you want to avoid
if possible.
