Regarding Low octane fuel and speed of burning and temp.

Well, I am not too sure that octane influences the propagation of the flame
front, but octane rating does affect your ability to get your engine to
perform.

The practical difference is that low octane fuel will ping with less ignition
advance. Maybe this is due to faster flame front propagation.

Within limits more ignition advance will allow the engine to run more
efficiently (more power). Lower compression reduces the tendency to ping (and
reduces power).

I'd say that you could try regular gas, but watch carefully for pinging. If
it happens retard the timing until it goes away. Probably the loss of power
will not be noticeable. If it requires too much retardation, then go with
higher octane.
