Anyone really familiar with TR engine numbers? A discussion came up in a
Morgan group about how the engines supplied by Triumph to Morgan were
numbered in sequence with the Triumph numbers but carried a different
suffix. Review of the Morgan factory log indicates that the engines for
Morgan were made in batches thus groups of engines having consecutive
numbers.
Someone raised the question that Since Triumph used the engine number as
the chassis number this would mean that there are holes in the sequence of
Triumph chassis numbers.
Morgan used there own chassis number thus with very few exceptions they
chassis numbers are sequential. Given the low production many Morgan owners
can place a cars build date simply by the chassis number.
Was Triumphs production so large that the missing numbers have not been
noted?
