Alan, I'm not sure where you got this, but I disagree.  The most common material
for SHCS is 180 kpsi steel, roughly 20% stronger than Grade 8 (150 kpsi) and 50%
stronger than Grade 5 (120 kpsi).

Recommended torques for SHCS pretty much mirror the tensile strength, and I've
never seen an undamaged head strip when used with the proper tool and torque.

What I don't understand is what advantage SHCS is supposed to have for
driveshaft flanges.  I'm not sure there's even room to get a hex key in there,
but even if there is, how is that any better than a box end wrench on a hex head
?  There still isn't room for a ratchet.

I prefer to buy the special bolts from TRF, as they have the right thread length
and shank diameter; but I agree with the all-metal locking nuts as I had the
same problem with Nylocs.  Note that the all-metal nuts do wear the threads each
time they're installed/removed, so both bolts & nuts need to be replaced
occasionally (but not every time).
