Randall,
The symptoms were pretty much what people describe as the same for a
broken clutch fork pin. I suspect, but have no way of proving, that
although my clutch fork pin was broken my clutch was actually working
pretty well. Combine a leaking clutch MC, an old slave cylinder, a
broken clutch fork pin and even a normal clutch with no broken springs
and you get a clutch that sometimes is hard to shift into first. This
was the symptons for the first two years I owned the car. Late this
summer things just got worse and worse until I didnt want to make a
five hour trip trying to shift without a clutch and hoping that
everything didnt fail all at once and leave me stranded two states away
from home. I honestly have no idea of the order that things went south
and at what point which part failure contributed to the overall
deterioration of the clutch operation. Add to this mess the fact that
I havent taken the old gearbox apart to check the condition and some of
my problem might be attributed to the gearbox. All I know for sure is
that my car went from sometimes shifting hard into first to the clutch
pretty much being almost gone(but no slipping at all). And somewhere
in that chain of events I started doing different repairs to correct
the problem. Started with the clutch fork pin, moved onto the MC and
slave cylinder. Then I had a really good clutch and was feeling pretty
good until halfway home on the four mile trip from Rick's house to
mine. Then there was a soft but audible noise and a sudden loss of
clutch operation. Inspection discovered the problem with the clutch
springs as posted on the triumphowners site below. I dont know how to
determine if there were broken spring or springs before it was obvious
all or some more broke on the way home. If anyone has any experience
or theory they want to share that might explain everything then I
welcome the theory.
I just wish I had checked the clutch disc when I had everything apart
the first time....sigh.
Sorry so long winded but hope I have answered your question. If
nothing else, I did learn many lessons. Hopefully my tale of woe will
help another owner or two.

Apologies for not paying attention Aaron ... what were the symptoms of
the
broken clutch springs ?
