That's a nice theory and it may work in the parallel universe but here the
probable suspect is that when the errant wire touched ground it drew a lot of
current causing that connector to get hot and oxidize and not carry current.
But moving it a bit during testing caused the two connector parts to move ever
so slightly and remake contact. I'd get out my strong readers (not the
everyday 1.25 ones but the 4.00 ones) and examine that connector closely. Even
touch
it up with some fine steel wool, even.
