List,

I'm doing a little research into the small ancillary items associated
with an engine rebuild for the TR4A.
One of the things I am noticing is the almost interchangeable use of
"gasket maker" and "gasket sealer".

Both are "jointing compounds", but they have different uses?

I would guess that gasket maker is something to be used in lieu of an
actual gasket.
When you are joining two parts together, but no gasket is available or
required, you would use gasket maker should you feel so inspired.

Gasket sealer on the other hand is used when there IS an actual gasket
available.

Both seem to come in two main classes; hardening and non-hardening.
Hylomar is a typical non-hardening gasket sealer.
You would use non-hardening in places that require some motion
flexibility, suppleness or possible repositioning after application.

In all other places you would use the hardening class.

Is all this logic this correct? It seems right to me, but then again
logic can be a dangerous thing.
After all, a dog has four limbs, a mouth, a nose, two eyes and two ears.
Therefore I must be a dog!

Which type of jointing compound would I use on the Fo8 gaskets inside
the engine. Using any sort of jointing compound inside the block seems
really dangerous to me.

As an aside, what is the proper color of the Tecalemit oil filter
canister?

Peace be with you!
