I assume you mean for a Triumph or vintage car. Within the past year I met
a widow who had her late husband's Triumph's appraised by a "noted
antique/classic car/sports car appraiser. He rated both cars as A+. The
TR3A which needed a repaint and new trim he rated at over $30,000. The
original TR4 from new - he suggested about the same. She was really
disappointed when she got about $13,000 for the 3 and about the same on the
4. Sooo, how do you get an adequate appraisal? Check out what's for sale on
the VTR site, check with others on the list who have bought lately, I'm not
so sure how good eBay is - I don't think I'd buy a Triumph that way, I'd
like to know the car and the owner and both histories. Call ads in old
Hemmings and ask what they sold for, not what they listed for, etc. We all
have allot more in our Triumphs than we can sell them for. We tell our
wife/significant other that they are investments, when we know that they are
toys. Although we can do alright financially when you figure in the fun
factor, even certificates of deposit do better in the long run. I'm in the

The short answer is "very little money, a fair amount of time"
