replace rhe riming chain and tensioner, my first rebuild fo an engine in 
similar condition was successful except for that little omission.  I soon had a 
worn tbrough timing tensioner AND timing chain cover. 

Carbs should be fine unless you are doing more mods.  My Healey 100  2,660 cc) 
had 1.5" SUs and it pulled like a train to its scintillating 4700 rpm redline.
