Hi again Alex, After a little more thought, there is also a bushing about an inch up from the bottom of the shift lever. This bushing seats the lever in the top cover, but allows the lever to pivot.

I drove my TR-4A to work today. It was a nice day here in Chicago. A nice ride with no traffic in the morning, then an afternoon shower washed my car. The ride home was nice too...even in rush hour.

You can check out Apple Hydraulics. They can fix you up with a rebuilt master cylinder at about half the cost of a new one. I bought one for my Spit6 and it's been fine so far (about 300 miles on it)
