this raises a question. What bore are people using for TR3/4. I've heard from a few sources that a lot more 89mm pistons get sold than 87, and if folks are using them, is it because their sanctioning

I run 87 mm. I've got enough questionable things (in terms of "vintage") on my car from its SCCA autocross days that are difficult if not impossible to change that I wouldn't feel right if I cheated

Some well known piston/liner supplier always told me that he sold many, many more sets of 89's and that I would have to special order the 87's. That's what I did and I think he is carrying them now.
