- I've observed the following marks by adding water to a completely dry undistorted original tank mounted on sawhorses and leveled. I've repeated this twice as a check: 2 Gal 15/16" 4 G 1-7/8" 6 G 2-9/

- I used a measuring cup to achieve 1 gallon in a straight-sided kitty-litter bucket, which I marked, then used the bucket to fill the tank. I rocked the tank to make sure air bubbles got out. The 6-3/

- Another thought came to me. Since the figure of 14.4 US gallons came from the Driver's Handbook, the difference could be attributed to the fact that the tank did not, in fact, hold 12 British gallons

- I have not read all the details on this subject so maybe I have missed it but I have not seen anything written that recognises that British Imperial gallons are not the same as US gallons 1 liquid US
