I think I know the answer to this one, and I don't like it. After 2 good days at Road America 3 weeks ago, I started losing oil pressure and parked the race car (1275 motor). The machine shop I've us

Pistons come up in pairs. The motor shouldn't care which one is firing and which one is exhausting. Options: Remove the drive dog pin from the dizzy shaft, turn the drive dog 180 and reinstall the pi

Dang, I thought of another option. Pull the dizzy drive spindle, rotate it and reinsert it. Won't that get you where you want to be? Cheers, Derf _______________________________________________ Edit

Let me get this straight in my head. Crank turns cam via timing chain(belt?). Cam turns dizzy drive spindle via gear mesh. But, cam and dizzy drive are not specifically timed, unless you index it som

OK, third or fourth post but I remember now. I had to look at the manual pdfs to jar my memory. Use a 5/16 bolt to remove and "re-time" or re-index the dizzy drive shaft. Just remove the dizzy and th

It'll will sound ok, but it's got to be made right. Remember, in a rush, I did the same somehow last year? Any chance you have a vernier cam gear? If so, it's an easy fix. I have changed a cam on a

Easier than that just run it with the wires switched. How many races do you get from a motor? You'll have it apart soon anyway. _______________________________________________ Edit your replies http:

You guys have to consider Ron is most likely running a scatter pattern cam...so all things are NOT equal. Also, he may have a vernier cam gear, so the fix is relatively easy. Easier than that just ru

David is right on the "can't be 180 out". It has to be the drive spindle. Unless it was indexed upon installation, it could be in any number of positions relative to the cam. And the scatter pattern

<< Thanks to all. I'm convinced of my answer.>> If the cam is 180 out then there is no real problem. 1) Remove dizzy gear. 2) Rotate crank through 360 which will realign crank and cam marks. 3) Reins

The cam can't be "180 out". It turns once for every two turns of the crank. If your index marks show the cam "180 out", then turn the crank over once and they'll be lined up. What you have to do is i

At TDC on #1, the drive gear will be upside down. The ignition timing will be spot-on, the cam timing (as we've bludgeoned here) will be spot on, but I know that if I really want to get irritated, I

Let the bludgeoning continue. No, if you pull the timing cover the cam index marks will be where they are supposed to be. The drive gear is independent of the cam. If it isn't indexed where you want

BTW, the timing marks should be close to each other, in line with an imaginary line drawn through the CLs of the cam and crank. _______________________________________________ Edit your replies http:
