Marc If the steering does not return, check the top nuts on the king pins. You mentioned they are new, I bet they are over tightened. There are shims that go under the trunion to give the pins a bit

I disconnected the tie rod ends from the steering levers. Both kingpin assembly's swivel freely. They look pretty new, and there is no discernible play. I can turn the steering wheel with one finger,

BUTTTT, a 1973 SHOULD have the Triumph steering rack which DOES require GREASE. Not that it wouldn't be likely to benefit from a good cleaning, just that it is not intended to run gear oil. David Li
