We pulled the rear brakes of the 73 midget today when my son noticed he could pull the half shaft right out of the left side. What is supposed to retain the half shafts? Looking at the manuals I have

Yeah, posidrive, if you say so, but my PHILLIPS screwdriver operates it just fine. If you're super silly, you can go to Sears and try to buy a Posidrive screwdriver instead of just using the Phillips

There is a big difference between a Posidrive screw and a Phillips screw and using the wrong type of screwdriver (or tip) invariably destroys the screw head. Ed's site has a really good tech feature

OK, there is a difference. But, I contend that you can use a Phillips screwdriver on them. Also, even if you do use the "correct" driver, it will "invariably destroy the screw head" after 10-12 torqu

As Derf said the wheel lugs ultimately keep it in place when bolted up. There are screws that hold the axle to the hub as we've been discussing. In my case, the screws are neither pozi nor Philips. T

That isn't overkill. A fastener really can't be too good for a job. And, we all know and envy your fastener snobbery. Note: you also got the pozi right, although abbreviated. ________________________
