The 305 was unreliable. If you have to purchase an engine, get a 350. All the Chevy small blocks are the same size so a 350 shouldn't create a mounting problem. Since so manu 350's were made, there

Thanks for all the in put. The reason I looking at a 305 was the better gas mileage though. What would the gas mileage difference be between a 350 and a 305? I'm working on a 16 year old's budget so

Thanks a bunch for all of the responses so far. I also was wanting to go with a turbo 350 auto transmission or if not that, then at leas some kind of auto trans. I forgot to mention that when I first

a corvette is cammed up for performance and the power is in the top end, this is exactly what you don't want. you want low end torque, something the 283 never had. there's no substitute for cubic inc

everything else being equal, the 305 will give you about 2 mpg. oletrucks is devoted to Chevy and GM trucks built between 1941 and 1959

I had a 305 in my 1977 El Camino and it was the sweetest engine I ever had. Gas mileage was 20/21 MPH on the highway and 16/18 MPH in town. It had plenty of power, I never felt like I needed more. I
