John, one route you can go to avoid painting the hood emblem is to order the decal set. The decal set has all the "Chevrolet" letters in red, the blue decal for the Chevy bowtie, and the small red li

According to my Chevrolet restoration pack for 1949 (free and full of interesting, and sometimes useful, information) the hood emblem bowtie is Blue Baking Dulux, and the name is in Vermilion Baking
