I have heard some guys on the list mention that for a 55 2nd TF, the rear end needs to measure 61" from hub to hub. Jim Forbes also mentions 61" in his article about swapping out rear ends. Are stock

I ran the numbers on my stock rear end through the dealership and they verified that it was original for 55-59. The picture i have shown is a 1981 Malibu, it may work, but i am not sure. Thanks...tc

You want 61" to use wider wheels and keep them in the fenders. the chevelle rear you have in the picture has the right dimentions but is lighter duty than the pre 81 Camaro. Lee -- Original Message

I forgot something, will the pictured rearend (81 Malibu) work even if the back plate to back plate measures 55-3/8ths? That is an inch narrower than the stock and even with the stock rear the inside
