About to take the block to be measured and [maybe] bored. The Haynes manual specs the bore at 2.78 in. For the 948 and 1098 engines it lists the bore to thousandths. Does anyone know is the spec 2.78

That is what the Bentley manual says 2.78 also. For oversize Bores it states 1st .010 and max at .020. If you need anything else, I have the manual right here, so let me know. Patton

You need to give the new pistons to the machinist so he can fit each individual bore to the particular piston. Les

I assumed it was supposed to a 3 place dimension, but either way bring your pistons to the machinist to fit them individually to the cylinder. I'm kind of anal when it comes to engines, so I mic ever

Ok, I can't measure my block (don't have a bore gage), so I don't know if/how much the block needs bored. The shop will do that for me. So, they measure it, tell me how much it needs bored, and I tak

In my case the machinist measured the bore and told me what size pistons I needed. Then when the pistons arrived, he measured the pistons and bored the cylinders the right amount over the actual pis

Since you need pistons anyway, I would buy 20 over pistons, take them to the shop, and have the block bored to fit.

Nope, not good enough. Leave the block there while you get pistons (oversize per the machinist). He will size the cylinders to each piston with a hone. The machinist will have to install the pistons

The machinist will have to install the pistons on the rods on a 1275, yes. a press and a special piston fixture is usually used - this is called pressing the piston pins out and in. Could work - I ha
