My '67 Midget is in the body shop getting worked on and they can't figure out how to take off the bonnet hinges. They say there's not enough room to reach behind the dashboard(barely enough room to g

Find a mechanic with smaller hands, it's a single bolt that's also the pivot for each hinge. Hard to reach but not impossible. It's allot easier with the dash out. If the bolts are worn or have becom

Is the bonnet already off? The dashboard ends of the hinge are well hidden - but the bonnet (hood) end is very accessible. 4 nuts and bolts on each hinge and two pairs of hands and the bonnet should

Thanks to all who've responded. What the guy's telling me now is that taking out the dashboard will take eight hours and they need an electrician. Does this sound about right? It seems excessive. I'l

I THINK I have done it with the dash in place, but I have small hands. Normally you would have to remove the dash. One screw on each side, three bolts vertically up into the body of the car. Ulix Ul

Don't buy any repro hinges, they are thinner gauge metal and break even faster. Try to find a good used one. If it hasn't broken yet, it's a good one. (I don't know HOW these things hold up bugeye f

Hi Becky, I took off my dash, rewired it after a fire caused by the DPO's shoddy wiring splices, *and* reinstalled the dash in less than 8 hours. Removing the dash can be a royal p.i.t.a. but it does

8 hours is overkill, As Ulix said five fasteners, drop the dash far enough to get to the bolt, remove bolt, put dash back up, no need to disconnect anything electrical.

Sounds like these "professionals" need a dose of attitude re-adjustment. 8 hours to take out a Spridget dash and replace a broken hinge is a crock. One hour tops. Talk to the manager and if he is a b
