Last evening, I was taking her down to the climatized warehouse for a winter nap...about 5 miles into the 30 mile trip, doing about 65 (top down, about 30 degrees, but hey!), when BANG! BANG! coupla

In the past I have had two similar experiences. The first and I doubt this happened was that the clutch gave out with a big bang. This happened at speed, about 65 MPH. Bad timing on my part as I was

Add to that list of steps, disassemble the oil filter and search the element carefully for metal particles. In the past I have found that every time I have had serious engine failure, evidence is in

Sounds like an ignition problem to me. Probably nothing serious unless the backfiring damaged the exhaust system. Bill Lawrence

Had a similar situtation a few years ago with my BJ8. For me the problem was a "freeze"/casting plug at the end of the intake manifold closest to the fire wall popping out. No plug, no vacuum, no go

Hello Brent, might just be the timing chain. See if the distributor is turning when you crank it and also be sure the little plastic nub that locates the rotor on dist. shaft hasn't sheared off. I ho

My cylinder head gasket blew with a big bang--it actually blew out between cylinders #'s 1 and 2 but I was still able to run the engine and run the car very slowly and with high temps due to the exha

I agree with some of the other listers that suspect an ignition problem. I would suggest that you first check for a spark from one of the plugs. I f no spark, work your way back to the distributor.

Except for the big cloud of smoke, the same thing happened to my BJ8. I blew the soft plug out of the intake manifold; don't know off the top of my head if a BT7 has a single manifold or one for each

If your car was "prefireing" through the carburettors, it could have popped out the casting plug located on the back of the intake manifold. Check the backside of the intake manifold which faces the

Ok, This will be a "weird" response to your question, but it is true none-the-less. I don't know if the "bangs" you experienced are the same as the big bang I had happen to my BJ8 or not, but you nev
