Adrian, Re-check the point gap. It sounds like the points closed up on you, which sometimes happens with new sets. Seems the rubbing block (the little plastic do-hickey which rubs the dist. cam) wear

Well Folks, First off, thanks for responding. The situation is as before - I= can't get my Midget over 3500rpm. It just won't go fast and it starts ba= ck firing in the exhaust. It seems to run fine

When you say the car won't run over 3500 rpm what does it do? You may have some bad gas or water in the tank or your cab may be gumed up. Have you tried dry gas or or something like gumout? ...Art
