I've always shied away from highway driving in my TD. The engine just doesn't sound too happy at 4000rpm. I've finely decided to take the plunge and change the rear end ratio. My mechanic has an MGA

Not strictly relevant to your question Bob but 2 weeks ago i had a short drive of Ian Penders TD which has all MGB running gear except for the rear end which is from a mustang (in preparation for V8

Yeah, but think, it had 1800cc power to "fly" with. Remember, any of these proposed rear axle ratio changes are going to hurt acceleration with the stock TD motor. Sad if you wound up with a highway

Are the ring and pinion gears the only two parts I'll need from the MGA? Yes, I think, but never personally having done it, I'd say get another opinion. 4.3 and 4.1 in the literature. Is he mistaken?

The 4.3 gears on 165x15 radial tires will cause the engine to rev 3497 at 60 mph. 5.50 original Dunlops 3247 5.60 repro Firestones 3317 I think your tach is reading high. Even with the 165x15 radial
