I've seen these at Les Cannaday's CDM shop, on Tom Phelan's silver car. Not certain, but I think I also saw them on Herb Petty's car recently. Don't know of any disadvantages. They're very beautiful.

When I was working in the sign shop we used that technique for many a year with no problems. And the local harley custom shop (Nick - who lived in a closet in his shop) used it too for custom tanks.
