I have a TR4A (late 1966 production) which had black paint on the caps of the master cylinders. It is possible that they had been painted by the owner at one time, but it seems somewhat unlikely. Als

As far as I know, all the master cylinders were unpainted aluminum (or aluminium, if you are across the pond) with aluminum caps. I would say your DPO painted them. Regards, Bill McLeod Slightly Clas

Thanks for the info. I strongly suspect that the painted caps were original to the car. I will have to see it they are steel or not. -Tony

Tony, This is an interesting question. There has been some debate going on concerning the finish of the caps. Early TR4's with steel caps should be painted black. Later TR4's and TR4A's with aluminum
