Doesn't sound like a bad gauge to me. Would be nice if that is all it is, but as it is very predictable at 4000rpm, it sounds more like a real problem to me. I would not expect the RPM of the engine

Actually, it turns out that it was a bad wire to the oil pressure sensor. It wasn't soldered right and was just sitting on the sensor housing. At higher RPM's it would start vibrating and lose some c
