I am glad someone brought this up again. It is probably old hat to most of you but there are some of us new folks around. These oil pressure readings appear to vary with the oil viscosity being used.

Rich, 20-50 is better for our engines, newer engines use tighter tolerances, so the thinner oil is better to flow into those tight spaces and lubricate everything quickly and thouroughly, on the old

You need 20W-50. 10/30 is too light. There is little risk of spinning a healey bearing because revs never get that high and tolerances are pretty big. Regards, Alan '53 BN1 '64 BJ8 -- Rich Holman <r

Mutiviscosity oil does not actually change it's weight as temperatures increase. 20/50 weight oils are a 20 weight and flow like a 20 weight oil at 0 degrees C. or 32 degrees F. Due to additives and

Greg and All Penrite Oil's recommendation for our Healeys is HPR 30 a 20W/60 viscosity. The older cars do really prefer a thicker oil, when these cars were manufactured there was no such thing as mul

Yes the viscosity seems to make a little difference. OP on my BN7 was a bit on the low side and a fellow club member suggested going to straight 40 wt. I did so and OP is up by 5-7 lbs or so. Keith

EP or Extreme Pressure additives are meant for gearsets having a sliding contact, such as hypoid gears in the final drive. EP oils should not be used in any assembly requiring operation of a friction

You are absolutely correct about the EP in Hypoid oils. However the reason for non-detergent is to let any particles of metal or trash settle out to the bottom of the case and not be circulated into
