You will definitely want to go with the 1/2", leave the 3/8" for the Air Ratchet. The Chicago Pneumatic brand is in fact Harbor Freight and the cheap crap you talk of. Alright for some people but if

Those are the best brands. There are 2 ways that impact wrenches will help you1) Loosening/tightening things that require more torque than you can apply by hand. You want a good 1/2" drive for this.

Harbor freight sells CENTRAL pneumatic, which I would assume is a low quality product. CHICAGO pneumatic is one of the best, and in our experience at my dad's shop is better than IR.
