My starter spins but does not engage. Used to be that I would push start, drive around, then next time it would work. Not anymore. What causes this? Is there a band-aid fix I can use until I take it

Try LOTS of WD40 on the Bendix sticking out of the bell housing....my starter behaved like that when cold...I also used the crank that came with the car when I was younger. I used to crank an Allis C

Chris: What is happening is the starter drive gear is not traveling along the Bendix drive shaft to engage the ring gear. This is often caused by dirt picked up as a result of attempts to lubricate,

It is only 2 bolts and 1 wire to disconeect the starter. To remove it, I had to disconnect the exhaust. Not much more than 20 minutes though.I never did get the starter all the way out of the car. Ev
